We have four doctors (with over 80 years of medical experience between them!), two nurses, two receptionists and a practice manager. We also have visiting specialist nurses and have access to further services such as podiatry, physiotherapy and dieticians at Ballynanty Health Centre. We maintain a close relationship with all local specialists and allied health services.
Dr Gerard O'Connell
Dr Gerard O'Connell founded what is now Ennis Road Medical Centre in 1979. A graduate of UCC in 1974, he has over 40 years experience as a GP in Limerick. Dr O'Connell holds postgraduate diplomas in Obstetrics, Child Health and Aviation Medicine and was a founding member of the Irish Faculty of Occupational Medicine. He continues to enjoy all aspects of General Practice and has a special interest in pilot medicals and men's health. An avid rower in his youth, he now prefers the bank of the river and is a passionate salmon fisherman.
Dr Simon O'Connell
A Limerick native, Dr Simon O'Connell graduated from UCD in 2002. He subsequently worked as a non consultant hospital doctor in Limerick,Dublin and Brisbane, completing his specialist training in General Practice in 2007. He then worked for a number of years as a GP in Limerick and has just returned from five years living and working as a General Practitioner in Perth, Australia.
Whilst in Australia, Simon completed a certificate in Skin Cancer Medicine in the University of Queensland, held the position of Senior Clinical lecturer in the University of Western Australia and was a fellowship examiner for the Royal Australian College of General Practice. A member of the Irish College of General Practice and a fellow of the Royal Australian College, Simon also has a postgraduate diploma in Child Health and enjoys all aspects of General Practice including child, student and men's health, travel medicine and preventative medicine including pre-employment medicals. When not working as a GP in Limerick, he enjoys most sports including tennis, golf, surfing and following Munster rugby.
Dr Aoife O'Connell
Dr Aoife O'Connell graduated from UCD in 2001. Following her internship in the Mater Hospital, Dublin and Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe, she returned to Limerick and completed the Mid-Western vocational GP training scheme.
She has worked as a GP at Ennis Road Medical Centre since 2005. She holds postgraduate diplomas in Child Health and in Obstetrics and Womens Health. She spends three days a week teaching medical students at U.L. medical school. Her special areas of interest are child health and medical education.
Dr. Cliodhna O Callaghan
We are delighted to welcome Dr. O'Callaghan as our GP registrar this year. A Tipperary native, Dr O'Callaghan will be with us until July 2018.

Category: GeneralDue to the unprecedented storm expected to hit Limerick on Monday and the weather warnings from Met Eireann we are asking patients not to travel unless absolutely necessary. Our ability to provide general practice services on this day cannot be guaranteed at this point in time though we will endeavour to do so if safe. We are advised that UL hospitals group has cancelled all outpatients appointments but the Emergency department at University Hospital Limerick is open as normal and the local injury unit in St Johns will be open from 9am to 6pm.
